My name is Wendy Landry. I am a Public Information Officer with the State of Louisiana, Office of Group Benefits. I am a working mother of two children and am married to a wonderful man who is supportive of everything I do. I started this blog as a way to journal my adventure along the path to weight loss. I was selected to participate in a weight loss study through Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, LA. I will be on a LCD (low calorie diet) for the next five years.
Now for a little more about me....I was always skinny. When I graduated from high school in 1993 I barely weighed 100lbs. I had the Barbie dimensions most women only dream of having. My parents used to joke with me that I should enjoy it while it lasts. I never understood that until now. You see, after a divorce, second marriage, two kids and a roller coaster of a career, I am now obese. Yes, you read correctly, OBESE!
I am 5'3" and at the start of this weight loss adventure, 235lbs! The healthy weight for a woman my size is 135lbs. While I have no delusions that I will ever weigh 135lbs, I am sure as heck going to try. With a family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid disease, obesity and cancer I figured it was time to get my weight in check. I mean, my kids are five and three. I want to be around to see them grow up and have families of their own. I want to be able to play with them and not be winded after 5 minutes.
My goal with this blog is to let those thinking about participating in this program know what it is really like. I also hope that those who are going on this journey with me can see they aren't the only ones struggling. I hope to get support and encouragement along the way.
I hope you enjoy this blog. Expect laughter and tears, anger and joy. It's going to be a long road.
